Sloppy Joe’s…From A Slow Cooker?

I’m amazed. Really I am. I never would have thought to make sloppy joes in a slow cooker. In fact, I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’ve never made them from scratch. I’m not sure why, I guess I just fell for the convenience of the can or envelope.

That’s all changed now that I’ve had these. You’re going to love them.

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef, the leaner the better
  • 1 (16-oz.) pkg. ground pork sausage
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 medium sized bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 all-purpose flour
  • Directions:

Brown the beef and sausage with onion and bell pepper in a large dutch oven over medium-High heat, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes or until the beef and sausage crumble and are no longer pink.
      Drain well.
Place the meat in a slow-cooker. Mix the other ingredients well and stir into the meat.
Cover and cook on high 4 hours.
      Serve on toasted hamburger buns.
