It’s pretty easy to not eat healthy in the summer. With all the picnics, cookouts and trips to the local ice cream stand, we can develop bad eating habits really quickly in the summer. It doesn’t have to be that way though. With all the fresh frutis and vegetables that are available, it’s really a good time to focus on healthy foods. Here are 3 simple ways to eat healhy this summer.
Tip 1: The Department of Agriculture recently eliminated the Food Pyramid. You remember that pyramid shape that told us how much we should be eating of different kinds of food. They replaced it with a plate. Actually just a circle that represents a plate. To eat healthy, you should fill half the plate with fruits and vegetables, then split up the other half between whole grains and lean protein.
Tip 2: Stop by your local farmers market and you’ll find the fruits and vegetables you need to fill that half a plate. Make sure that what your buying is locally grown and you’ll know you’re getting the freshest stuff available.
Tip 3: Healthy food doesn’t have to bland. In fact, if it is you are being lazy. There are millions of great recipes on the internet that will help you make those fruits and vegetables taste so good your kids will be asking for more. Start here on this site, then go to your favorites search site and search for “ingredient recipes”. I just did a quick search on Google for cauliflower recipes and it gave me over 5 1/2 MILLION results. Sort through until you find 2 or 3 different recipes that you like and then give them a try.
